Logical Points

Logical points let you assign one or more antennas to a named location, such as a dock or door. Each SmartReader instance can define multiple logical points in its configuration. When different readers use the same logical point name, their antennas are combined into a single shared dock.

Using shared names is useful when multiple readers cover the same physical area. Tag events published from any of those readers will include the logical point name, allowing downstream systems to treat them as the same dock.

Example

Reader A configuration:

  • Logical Point Name: Dock 1

  • Antennas: 1, 2

Reader B configuration:

  • Logical Point Name: Dock 1

  • Antennas: 3, 4

Both readers report tag reads under "Dock 1". In effect, Dock 1 is composed of antennas 1 and 2 from Reader A and antennas 3 and 4 from Reader B, creating a shared dock across the two devices.
